| The effectiveness of nursing practice reform in Department of Chest Surgery |

Abstract Objective To establish the specific contents of nursing parctice reform based on core competency in Department of Chest Surgery. Methods 41 nursing students were selected as control group, who were in Department of Chest Surgery, the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi′an Jiaotong University (for short "our hospital") from May 2015 to January 2016. And 43 nursing students were selected as experimental group, who were in our hospital Department of Chest Surgery from May 2016 to January 2017. The nursing practice model based on core competency was used in experimental group and original nursing practice method was used in control group. Three indicators were used to evaluate the reform effectiveness, including the comprehensive ability, teachers′ satisfaction with students and students′ satisfaction with teachers. Results The scores of basic knowledge and nursing skills in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The scores of teachers′ satisfaction with students in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05), except about nursing malpractice (P > 0.05). The students in experimental group were more satisfied with teachers (P < 0.05). Conclusion The nursing practice reform based on core competency can play a positive role in the teachers and nursing students.
