Clinical study of the visual quality after implantation of an aspherical intraocular lens ZCB00 |

Abstract Objective To compare the impact on functional vision of the aspheric Tecnis ZCB00 lens with the spherical Sensar AR40e lens. Methods From January to July in 2015, 60 patients with cataract in the First Central Hospital of Baoding were selected and divided into observation group and control group according to random number table, with 30 cases in each group. All cataract patients underwent phacoemulsification were randomized to receive an aspheric IOL (AMO Tecnis ZCB00 , as observation group) or a spherical IOL (AMO AR40e, as control group). Uncorrected visual acuity, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), contrast sensitivity function (CSF), spherical aberration of the whole eye and internal optics (IOL) at 5 mm pupil diameter and modulation transfer function(MTF) were examined 3 months after postoperatively. Results The postoperative visual activity was not significantly different between the two groups (P > 0.05).The postoperative high order aberration of the eye at 5 mm pupil diameter in the observation group was less than that in the control group (P < 0.01). In the bulk of spatial frequencies, including photopic vision (6, 12, 18 cpd), photopic vision with glare conditions (except 1.5 cpd), scotopic vision (1.5, 6, 12 cpd) and scotopic vision with glare, mean CSF generally in the observation group was higher than that in the control group, with statistical significance (P < 0.05). The values of MTF in the observation group were higher than those in the control group except 30 cpd in 5.0 mm pupil sizes (P < 0.05). Conclusion Comparing to the conventional spherical IOL, the negative aspheric IOL may reduce the spherical aberration and improve visual performance of pseudophakic eyes.
