Research progress of minipigs in reproductive toxicity studies |

Abstract As to anatomy and pathophysiology, there are lots of similarities between human and minipig. Because of its short estrus cycle and large number of piglets in a litter, minipig has become an ideal animal model for medical research in human. However, minipig has been restrictedly used in reproductive toxicity studies because of its large body size and limited background data. In this review summarizes the characteristics of minipig as well asits current applications in reproductive toxicity studies, intend to expand the range of selecting non-rodents and provide new ideas for nonclinical reproductive toxicity studies.
