Abstract Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) is a kind of gene polymorphism and multifunctional protein, which is closely related to the metabolism of lipoprotein. Its deletions and mutations can cause metabolic disorders and dysfunction in the body, and even cause a series of diseases and complications. In recent years, ApoE-/- mice have been mainly used in atherosclerosis, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases and kidney diseases. In order to better study the application mechanism of ApoE in various disease models and provide a more powerful basis for clinical treatment of diseases, this paper summarizes the pathogenesis of several diseases related to ApoE protein in human ApoE genotype, and summarizes the animal models for in vitro study of disease development process.
