Comparison therapeutic effect of extracorporeal shock wave therapy and local pain point block therapy in costal chondritis |

Abstract Objective To compare the efficacy between Extracorporeal shock wave therapy and local pain point block therapy in the treatment of costal chondritis. Methods From March 2015 to October 2017, 40 patients with costal chondritis in the orthopaedic clinic of Honghui Hospital affiliated to Xi′an Jiaotong University were selected as the study subjects. They were divided into treatment group (n = 20) and control group (n = 20) according to random number table method. They were divided into a treatment group (n=20) and a control group (n=20) according to a random number table method. The treatment group was given divergent extracorporeal shock wave treatment for 4 days/time for a total of 5 treatments; the control group was given local pain point block treatment for 5 days/time for a total of 3 treatments. The scores of visual analogue scale (VAS) were compared between the two groups before treatment, after the last treatment and 4 weeks after the last treatment, and the excellent and good rate of clinical efficacy was compared between the two groups. Results There was no significant difference in the clinical efficacy between the two groups (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in the VAS scores between the two groups before treatment (P > 0.05). The VAS scores of the two groups after the last treatment and 4 weeks after the last treatment were lower than those before treatment (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in VAS scores and pain relief between the two groups after 4 weeks of treatment (both P > 0.05). Conclusion There is no significant difference in the long-term effect between the two therapies, but as a new non-invasive therapy, the two therapies have the advantages of definite effect, less safety complications and easy popularization.
