Effects of probiotic enteral nutrition on intestinal mucosal barrier function and inflammatory response in colon cancer patients |

Abstract Objective To investigate the effects of probiotic enteral nutrition on intestinal mucosal barrier function and inflammatory response in colon cancer patients. Methods Ninety-four patients who underwent laparoscopic radical resection of colon cancer in the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University from February 2016 to June 2018 were selected as subjects, and the patients were divided into control group and observation group with 47 cases in each group by random number table method. The group A was given early oral enteral nutrition after operation, and group B was given Clostridium butyricum viable tablets on the basis of group A. The levels of plasma endotoxin (ET), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), diamine oxidase (DAO) and C-reactive protein (CRP) were observed at 1st, 4th and 7th day after operation in the two groups. The operation time, intraoperative bleeding volume, anal exhaust time, 7-day internal defecation ratio and postoperative infection rate of the two groups were statistically analyzed. Results There was no significant difference in operation time and bleeding volume between the two groups (P > 0.05). The anal exhaust time of the observation group was lower than that of the control group, and the proportion of internal defecation in 7 days was higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05). The levels of ET, DAO, CRP and TNF-α in the observation group were lower than those in the control group at 4th and 7th day after operation (P < 0.05).The total incidence of postoperative infectious diseases in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Early oral enteral nutrition combined with probiotics can protect the intestinal mucosal barrier, alleviate inflammatory reaction, promote the recovery of gastrointestinal function and reduce the incidence of postoperative infection in patients with colon cancer undergoing laparoscopic surgery, which is worthy of clinical application.
