Expression and clinical significance of Axin and metastasis-associated gene 1 in colon cancer protein in gastric cancer tissues |

Abstract Objective To investigate the expression of Axin and metastasis-associated gene 1 in colon cancer in gastric cancer tissues and their correlation with clinicopathological parameters. Methods From January 2015 to December 2017, 150 surgical specimens of patients with gastric cancer in the Qingdao Eighth People′s Hospital, Shandong Province were collected as the gastric cancer tissue and randomly pick one of them 70 cases as the paracancer tissues. The expression of Axin and MACC1 in the cancer and paracancer tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry, to analyze the relationship between the expression of Axin and MACC1 and the clinicopathological parameters of gastric cancer patients and their correlation. Results The positive expression rate of Axin in the gastric cancer tissue was lower than that in the paracancerous tissue, and the positive expression rate of MACC1 in the gastric cancer tissue was higher than that in the paracancerous tissue, the differences were highly statistically significant (P < 0.01). The expressions of Axin and MACC1 in gastric cancer tissues were related to the invasion depth, differentiation degree, lymph node metastasis and Duke stage of gastric cancer (P < 0.01), and the expression of Axin in gastric cancer tissues was negatively correlated with MACC1 (P < 0.05). Conclusion The decreased expression of Axin and the increased expression of MACC1 are both related to the development of gastric cancer. The early detection of these two indicators can provide an important basis for the prediction of the progress of gastric cancer. The expression of Axin is negatively correlated with MACC1, which may synergistically lead to low differentiation, high invasion and high metastasis of the tumor, suggesting that Axin and MACC1 may be potential targets for the treatment of gastric cancer.
