Clinical effect of Canggui Tanxue acupuncture at ashi point in the treatment of muscle, bone and joint pain induced by aromatase inhibitor of breast cancer |

Abstract Objective To explore the clinical effect of Canggui Tanxue acupuncture at ashi point in the treatment of muscle, bone and joint pain induced by aromatase inhibitor of breast cancer. Methods Seventy-two breast cancer patients with muscle, bone and joint pain because of taking aromatase inhibitor admitted to Galactophore Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine from July 2016 to September 2017 were randomly divided into control group (36 cases) and observation group (36 cases). The control group was treated with oral Western medicine, based on the control group, the observation group was given Canggui Tanxue acupuncture at ashi point. Both groups were treated for 3 courses. The clinical effect, the scores of visual analogue scale (VAS), Barthel index (BI) and the changes of lumbar spine bone mineral density (BMD) were compared between two groups. The levels of serum cytokine interferon-γ (IFN-γ), interleukin-4 (IL-4), estradiol (E2) were detected and the occurrence of adverse reactions was observed. Results ①The total effective rate of the observation group was significantly higher than the control group (P < 0.05). ②After treatment, the VAS scores of the two groups were significantly lower than those before treatment (P < 0.01), and the observation group was significantly lower than the control group (P < 0.01). ③After treatment, the BI score and BMD values of lumbar spine in the two groups were significantly higher than those before treatment (P < 0.05), which of the observation group were significantly higher than the control group (P < 0.05). ④Compared with before treatment, the levels of IFN-γ were decreased significantly, the levels of IL-4 were increased significantly in the two groups after treatment (P < 0.01), while the levels of E2 did not change significantly (P > 0.05); compared with the control group, the levels of IFN-γ were significantly decreased and the levels of IL-4 were significantly increased in the observation group (P < 0.01), but there was no significant difference in serum E2 levels between the two groups (P > 0.05). ⑤There were no adverse reactions in both groups during the course of treatment. Conclusion Canggui Tanxue acupuncture at ashi point can effectively improve the muscle, bone and joint pain caused by appliaction of aromatase inhibitor in breast cancer patients, and can significantly enhance the living ability of patients, which is safe, feasible, and worthy of clinical promotion and application.
