Abstract Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) are among the most frequent complications affecting the recovery of patients during anesthesia period. It is of great significance to recognize the risk factors of PONV and take effective prevention and treatment measures in clinic. This review summarizes native and foreign thinking and researches of PONV currently, and formulates the influence factors of PONV, different scoring systems and prevention measures. Perioperative risk factors should be analysed, and the combined interventions should be considered during anesthesia. Adopting these practices should serve as the best strategy to minize the incidence of PONV and improve patients′ satisfaction.
