| Study on the application effect of clinical pathway nursing in patients with acute respiratory failure |

Abstract Objective To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of clinical pathways on nursing work of patients with acute respiratory failure. Methods Eighty patients with acute respiratory failure treated in ICU of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi′an Jiaotong University from June 2017 to July 2018 were selected, they were divided into control group and observation group according to random number table method, 40 cases in each group. The patients in control group were given with routine nursing and observation group was intervented with clinical pathway nursing. ICU time, ventilation time, respiratory function recovery time, hospitalization cost, complications, and nursing service satisfaction of patients were compared between two groups, blood gas indexes of patients before and after nursing intervention were compared between two groups. Results The ICU time, ventilation time, respiratory function recovery time, hospitalization costs and the incidence of complications in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). After the intervention, the partial oxygen pressure (PO2) of the patients in both groups were higher than those before the intervention, and the partial carbon dioxide pressure (PCO2) were lower than those before intervention, and PO2 of patients in the observation group was higher and PCO2 was lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion Clinical pathway nursing might shorten the hospitalization time, the ventilation, and recovery time of respiratory function in patients with acute functional failure, reduce the hospitalization costs and the incidence of complications, improve the blood gas indexes and the patients′ satisfaction.
