Abstract Induced pluripotent stem cell (iPS cell) is a kind of pluripotent differentiated stem cells which is induced by artificial reprogramming. At present, iPS cells have been successfully differentiated into many different mature cells, including osteogenic differentiation. And recent discoveries have showed that iPS cells have the potential to advance future bone regenerative therapies. This article provides an review of the findings on osteogenic characteristics in vitro and in vivo. In addition, this article discusses the role of cytokines and microRNA (miRNA) in the differentiation of iPS cells. Finally, this article summarizes the effects of various kinds of scaffolds on the osteogenesis of iPS cells, which might contribute to the development of future research and experiment.
