Relationship of cord blood orexin and adiponectin and growth and development of neonatal |

Abstract Objective To study the relationship of the cord blood orexin, adiponectin, growth and development of neonatal. Methods From October 2015 to February 2016, in the First Hospital of Hebei Medical University, 90 newborns were selected as study object, they were divided into preterm group (30 cases) and term infant group (60 cases). The levels of cord blood orexin and adiponectin were measured, and the body weight, body length and head circumference were accurate measured at the first days after birth, and the body mass index (BMI) and Ponderal index (PI) were calculated. The correlation of the levels cord blood orexin and adiponectin and newborn growth indexes were analyzed. Results The gestational age, body weight, body height, head circumference, placental weight and BMI in two groups were compared, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.01); the gender and PI were compared, the differences were not statistically significant (P > 0.05). The level of cord blood orexin in preterm group was significantly higher than the term infants group, and the level of adiponectin in preterm group was significantly lower than the term infants group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.01). The level of orexin was negative correlation to gestational age, body weight, body height, head circumference, placental weight and BMI (r = -0.612, -0.562, -0.582, -0.557, -0.608, -0.521, all P < 0.05), and the level of adiponectin was positive correlation to gestational age, body weight, body height, head circumference, placental weight and BMI (r = 0.547, 0.534, 0.512, 0.524, 0.533, 0.498, all P < 0.05), but the level of orexin and adiponectin were not correlation to gender and PI (P > 0.05). Further multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that cord blood orexin and adiponectin were closely related to neonatal growth and development indicators (P < 0.05). Conclusion Orexin and adiponectin in cord blood are involved in the body weight regulation and growth process of newborns, and they are closely related to the growth and development indicators of newborns, they may reflect the growth and development of newborn.
