Relationship between serum vitamin D and cytokines, immunoglobulin E and acidic granulocyte cationic protein in children with asthma |

Abstract Objective To investigate the relationship between serum vitamin D and cytokines, IgE and ECP in children with asthmatic bronchitis. Methods Ninety children with asthmatic bronchitis (hepatitis group), 90 children with asthma (asthma group), and 90 healthy children (control group) diagnosed in the Pediatric Department of Changsha Central Hospital from March 2016 to January 2017 were selected as the study objects. The levels of serum 25-(OH)D3, IgE, IL-4, IL-12, IL-2, IFN-γ, TGF-β1, and ECP in the three groups were compared and analyzed. Results The 25-(OH)D3 level in the asthma group and asthma group were significantly lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05); the asthma group was higher than the asthma group (P < 0.05). The levels of IL-4, TGF-β1, IgE and ECP in the asthma group and asthma group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05), and IL-12, IL-2, IFN-γ were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The IL-12, IgE, IL-2, IFN-γ and ECP of the asthma group were lower than those of the asthma group (P < 0.05). The IL-4 in the asthma group was higher than that in the asthma group (P < 0.05). Serum 25-(OH)D3 level in the asthma group was negatively associated with IL-4 (r = -0.419, P = 0.001), IL-12 (r = -0.488, P = 0.000), TGF-β1 (r = - 0.392, P = 0.002), IgE (r = -0.527, P = 0.000), IL-2 (r = -0.539, P = 0.000), and INF-γ (r = -0.520, P = 0.000), while had no significant correlation with serum ECP (r = -0.274, P = 0.063). Conclusion Serum 25-(OH)D3 level is decreased in children with asthmatic bronchitis, inflammatory factor, IgE and ECP levels are elevated, and that has certain relationship with serum 25-(OH)D3.
