Abstract Osteopontin (OPN) is a phosphorylated glycoprotein that is highly expressed in a variety of cancers, which has the effects of inhibiting tumor cell apoptosis and promoting tumor cell invasion and metastasis. In recent years, studies have demonstrated that OPN is overexpressed in gastric cancer and it can up-regulate the expression of various angiogenic factors and protein kinases through MAPK, NF-κB, PI3K/AKT signaling pathways, autocrine pathways, and macrophage polarization. The overexpression of OPN promotes the invasion and metastasis of gastric cancer cells. Therefore, OPN may become a new target for regulating the invasion and metastasis of gastric cancer cells. This paper analyzes and summarizes the mechanism of OPN in promoting the invasion and metastasis of gastric cancer, in order to provide reference for the treatment of OPN target of gastric cancer.
