Abstract  Enterovirus infection in neonatal central nervous system can be manifested as viral meningitis, encephalitis, or acute flaccid myelitis, and may be complicated by brain damage such as periventricular leukomalacia. In severe cases, it may lead to sequelae such as cognitive impairment and cerebral palsy. Enteroviruses bind to specific receptors under the action of host factors, and destroy the virus clearance and inflammatory response of the body’s immune system through immune escape mechanism. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction is the gold standard for the diagnosis of enterovirus infection in the central nervous system, and clinical treatment mainly focuses on symptomatic support. This article reviews the epidemiology of enterovirus and the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, early recognition, clinical diagnosis, prevention, treatment of enterovirus infection inneonatal central nervous system, in order to improve the understanding of the disease in the clinic.
