Abstract Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, systemic immune disease mainly characterized by synovitis, with a high disability rate and an unclear pathogenesis. Therefore, finding animal models similar to human arthritis is crucial for studying the pathogenesis and treatment of the disease. There are many different models of rheumatoid arthritis in mice and rats, although they are well established, and there are advantages and disadvantages. Finding suitable models according to the situation can facilitate the establishment of animal models and improve the success rate. This article introduces several common models, adjuvant induced arthritis models and collagen-induced arthritis models are most commonly used. In addition, there are models of collagen antibodies induced arthritis, pristane induced arthritis, cartilage oligomeric matrix protein induced arthritis, streptococcal cell wall induced arthritis, and genetically engineered rheumatoid arthritis, in order to provide useful references for experiments related to rheumatoid arthritis.
