Abstract With the opening up and implementation of the comprehensive “two child”“three child” policy, China’s birth population will continue to increase, and the birth rate and survival rate of extremely premature and ultra premature infants will also increase year by year. Due to their small age, low birth weight, disability and high mortality, the physical, neuropsychological, and behavioral development of premature infants at small gestational age has become the focus of public health undertakings. Postnatal physical catch-up growth is not parallel to neuropsychological development. Good physical growth does not mean premature infants are ahead in adaptability, movement, language, cognition, and social interaction. This article mainly summarizes the definition and mechanism of postnatal catch-up growth of premature infants, and summarizes the impact of postnatal catch-up growth of ultra early/extremely premature infants on later neuropsychological and behavioral development.
