| A case of giant esophageal gastrointestinal stromal tumor and literature review |

Abstract Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) are a relatively rare of gastrointestinal diseases, and oesophageal GIST is even rarer. A case of giant esophageal stromal tumor admitted to the First People’s Hospital of Neijiang, Sichuan Province (hereinafter referred to as “our hospital”) was retrospectively analyzed, the tumor size was 10.7 cm×7.9 cm×1.6 cm. The main symptom of the patient was dysphagia obstruction, which was misdiagnosed as “advanced esophageal cancer” in the past and failed to receive timely surgical treatment, the patient was successfully treated by right thoracic and abdominal incision (Ivor Lewis surgery) in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery of our hospital. The postoperative pathological diagnosis was GIST. According to the plan, the patient ate normally on the 7th day after surgery and was discharged successfully on the 10th day after surgery. Therefore, comprehensive treatment such as preoperative comprehensive evaluation, individualized surgical plan and postoperative targeted drug-assisted therapy can help improve GIST patients’ quality of life and prolong survival rate. Therefore, this paper reviewed the literature on the origin, diagnosis, and treatment of GIST in order to improve the attention of clinicians to this disease.
