Abstract Rotavirus is a kind of enterovirus, the mechanism of which causes diarrhea is very complicated, and there is no specific drug to treat it. Recent studies have shown that 5-hydroxytryptamine plays a major role in rotavirus diarrhea. By modulating the expression of 5-hydroxytryptamine and the function of the enteric nervous system and intestinal epithelial barrier that it affects, the symptoms of rotavirus diarrhea can be effectively reduced. The relationship between 5-hydroxy tryptamine and rotavirus diarrhea has not been systematically organized. This review combines the latest relevant studies to provide a theoretical basis for the development of new anti-rotavirus drugs, with the aim of guiding clinical treatment more accurately.
