Abstract Preeclampsia is a unique complication during pregnancy, which seriously threatens the health of mothers and fetuses. Up to now, the etiology and pathogenesis have not been fully elucidated, but a large number of studies have shown that the pathogenesis may be related to inflammatory immune overactivation, abnormal glucose and lipid metabolism, oxidative stress, and other abnormalities. With the in-depth study of intestinal flora, studies have found that intestinal flora can affect the over-activation of inflammatory immunity by regulating inflammatory factors, cytokines, and the proliferation and differentiation of T cells. When intestinal flora is disturbed, short-chain fatty acids produced by metabolism are reduced, which affects glucose and lipid metabolism and jointly participate in the occurrence and development of preeclampsia. In addition, placental microecology can be a new entry point to explore the pathogenesis of preeclampsia. This provides new ideas for revealing the pathogenesis of preeclampsia and exploring the prevention and treatment of preeclampsia. This article reviews the current research on the correlation between intestinal flora and preeclampsia.
