Application effect of PDCA nursing model on airway function, compliance, and quality of life in patients with bronchial asthma |

Abstract Objective To explore the effect of PDCA nursing model on airway function, compliance, and quality of life in patients with bronchial asthma (hereinafter referred to as “our hospital”). Methods A total of 100 patients with asthma admitted to the Western District of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital from May 2019 to June 2022 were selected, and they were divided into PDCA group and control group by random number table method, with 50 cases in each group. PDCA group adopted PDCA nursing mode, the control group received routine care. Both groups were treated for one month. Medication compliance, airway function (tidal volume, respiratory rate, and peak expiratory flow rate [PEF]) and quality of life (assessed by asthma quality of life scale [AQLQ]) were compared between the two groups before and after intervention. Results After intervention, medication compliance in both groups was better than before intervention, and PDCA group was better than control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05); after intervention, tidal volume of the two groups was higher than before intervention, respiratory rate and PEF were lower than before intervention, and tidal volume of PDCA group was higher than control group, respiratory rate and PEF were lower than control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05); the mean score of each dimension and total mean score of AQLQ in two groups were higher than before intervention, and PDCA group was higher than control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion PDCA nursing model for patients with asthma can improve nursing services, improve patients’ medication compliance, and promote the improvement of airway function and quality of life.
