Abstract Sjögren’s syndrome is a connective tissue lesion caused by the activation of the autoimmune system. The etiology is unknown, and the control of this disease remains a major challenge. Apoptosis plays a key role in maintaining immune microenvironment homeostasis and it is an important pathogenesis of Sjögren’s syndrome. This paper summarizes the process of apoptosis in Sjögren’s syndrome, discusses the specific mechanism of apoptosis from the exocrine gland cells and lymphocytes, and introduces the existing intervention methods, which will inspire future research directions.
