Abstract Objective To analyze the visual atlas of acute lung injury by bibliometric method. Methods Literature on acute lung injury was searched in Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure and PubMed databases from January 2002 to December 2021. CiteSpace and VOSviewer were used to visualize the authors, research units, countries, and keywords of the included documents. Results A total of 10 376 and 20 335 literatures were included in Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure and PubMed databases respectively, and there were obvious differences in the published papers between them. Analysis about the authors of the papers indicated that the teams of Qian Guisheng, Qiu Haibo, Duan Yunyu, Michael Matthay, Paolo Pelosi, and Danile Traber published more papers; the major countries were the United States, China, and Germany; key words comparative analysis found that Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure research were mainly focused on inflammation, oxidative stress, signaling pathway, disease infection source, animal model, pulmonary surfactant, mechanical ventilation, etc.; the PubMed database were mainly focused on the incidence population, animal disease models, disease infection sources, hemodynamics, acute lung injury diagnosis and treatment statistics, inflammatory factors in experimental mechanisms, peroxide research, and immune regulation. Conclusion Acute lung injury has been a hot topic at home and abroad, and there is a significant difference in the comparison between Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure and PubMed studies. At present, most of its studies are on the experimental basis and clinical application related to blood indicators, inflammatory factors, immune balance and mechanical ventilation, and there are more studies on it in developed countries.
