Abstract The incidence of liver injury is increasing year by year, it is urgent to develop high quality hepatoprotective drugs. Traditional Chinese medicine has unique advantages and potential in liver protection, and has therapeutic effect in a variety of liver injury caused by chemical, drug, alcohol, and immunity reasons. Traditional Chinese medicine can alleviate liver injury by improving liver antioxidant capacity, inhibiting hepatocyte apoptosis, regulating hepatocyte autophagy, regulating liver metabolism, and improving liver inflammation. It acts on Nrf2, PI3K, TGF-β1, NF-κB and other targets, and related signaling pathways. Some drugs or active ingredients can act through multiple pathways and multiple targets. Traditional Chinese medicine has a good application prospect in liver protection, but there are many components of the compound and unclear mechanism interaction. Further research is needed to provide reference for clinical application.
