Abstract Chronic diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, malignant tumors, and chronic respiratory diseases, seriously damage the health of individuals and groups. The composition of human body includes water, protein, body fat, inorganic salt, etc. The analysis of human body composition can comprehensively evaluate and dynamically monitor the nutritional risk of patients, guide the implementation of reasonable nutritional intervention and rehabilitation treatment, and it is of great significance to the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. At present, physical measurement, densitometry, bioelectrical impedance method, and medical imaging technology can be used to measure the body composition in clinic, and the clinical treatment can be guided by the measured values such as body fat percentage, swelling index, and fat free tissue content. This paper reviews the composition of human body and its measurement methods, as well as the application effect in patients with chronic diseases, by consulting relevant literature at home and abroad, so as to provide theoretical basis for patients with chronic diseases to formulate effective health management intervention programs.
