Application value of white blood cell count, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio combined with erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein in the diagnostic differentiation of viral pneumonia and bacterial pneumonia |

Abstract Objective To investigate the application value of white blood cell count (WBC), neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) combined with erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) in the diagnostic differentiation of viral pneumonia and bacterial pneumonia. Methods A total of 54 cases of viral pneumonia (viral group) and 54 cases of bacterial pneumonia (bacterial group) in Anhui No.2 Provincial People’s Hospital from February 2019 to December 2021 were selected as research objects. Blood routine (PLT), mean platelet volume (MVP), WBC, N, L, NLR, ESR, and CRP were compared between two groups, and the diagnostic efficacy of WBC, NLR combined with ESR and CRP in bacterial pneumonia were analyzed. Results WBC, N, and NLR in bacterial group were higher than those in virus group (P<0.05); there were no significant difference in PLT, MPV, and L between two groups (P>0.05). The levels of ESR and CRP in bacterial group were higher than those in virus group (P<0.05). The area under the curve of combined detection was higher than that of single detection (P<0.05). Conclusion WBC, NLR combined with ESR and CRP can accurately distinguish viral pneumonia from bacterial pneumonia, and has high application value.
