Effect of precision feeding training on the rehabilitation of children with severe traumatic brain injury with dysphagia |

Abstract Objective To study the effect of precision feeding training on the rehabilitation of children with severe traumatic brain injury with dysphagia. Methods A total of 94 children with severe traumatic brain injury with dysphagia who were treated in Rehabilitation Center, Hunan Children’s Hospital from January 2019 to April 2022 were selected and they were divided into control group (47 cases) and observation group (47 cases) by random number table method. The control group received routine rehabilitation training, while the observation group received precision feeding training. The rehabilitation effect and clinical symptoms of the two groups were compared, the standardized swallowing assessment (SSA) score and body weight were compared between the two groups before and after treatment, and the gross motor function scale (GMFM-88) was compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results The rehabilitation effect of the observation group was better than that of the control group (P<0.05). The recovery time of limb dysfunction, the time to complete oral feeding, the time of indwelling gastric tube and the length of hospital stay in the observation group were shorter than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, SSA score was lower and body weight was higher in both groups than before treatment, and SSA score in observation group was lower than control group, body weight was higher than control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores and total scores of GMFM-88 in both groups were higher than before treatment, and the observation group was higher than the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Precision feeding training can improve the rehabilitation of children with severe traumatic brain injury with dysphagia. The effect is remarkable, which can promote the recovery of clinical symptoms in children, improve swallowing function, gross motor function, and quality of life, weight gain, which is worthy of promotion.
