Abstract Work injury rehabilitation is an important part of the work injury insurance system. During “the 14th Five-Year Plan” period, China’s work injury rehabilitation development has entered a new era. Work injury rehabilitation institutions are the most important part of work injury rehabilitation. How to develop to meet the requirements of the new era is a major issue at this stage. This study focuses on the needs of work injury rehabilitation and the development of rehabilitation institutions. A number of aspects are considered, including the form and content of service, personnel training, hospital management and work injury rehabilitation policy. Also considered are the developmental status of work injury rehabilitation institutions in China and the restrictive factors of its high quality development. Countermeasures to restrictive factors are proposed that can stimulate high quality development of work injury rehabilitation and promote a fair and excellent environment for employees and patients in work injury rehabilitation.
