Abstract  Objective To investigate the effect of Sanjin Decoction combined with western medicine on renal function and oxidative stress level in  obstructive nephropathy patients with syndrome of dampness-heat of liver and gallbladder. Methods A total of 165 patients with obstructive nephropathy treated in the Bengbu Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, Anhui Province from December 2018 to December 2021 were selected and divided into Sanjin Decoction group, western medicine group, and combined group by random number table method, with 55 cases in each group. All the three groups received surgery and conventional drug treatment, Sanjin Decoction group received Sanjin Decoction after surgery, western medicine group received Enalapril after surgery, combined group received Sanjin Decoction and Enalapril after surgery, the course of treatment was three months. The levels of blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum creatinine (SCr), superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA), and scores of short form 36 (SF-36), kidney disease-related quality of life scale before and after treatment were compared among the three groups. Results After treatment, BUN, SCr, and SOD of the three groups were lower than those before treatment, MDA, and scores of SF-36, kidney disease-related quality of life scale were higher than those before treatment. In addition, BUN, SCr, and SOD in combined group were lower than those in Sanjin Decoction group and western medicine group, MDA, and scores of SF-36, kidney disease-related quality of life scale were higher than those in Sanjin Decoction group and western medicine group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Sanjin Decoction combined with western medicine can better protect renal function and inhibit oxidative stress in obstructive nephropathy patients with syndrome of dampness-heat of liver and gallbladder after surgery, which is worthy of clinical application.
