| Application of protective sleep nursing combined with hydrotherapy in children with neonatal jaundice |

Abstract Objective To investigate the effect of using protective sleep care combined with hydrotherapy intervention in children with neonatal jaundice (NG). Methods One hundred cases of NG children from January 2019 to January 2022 in Drum Tower Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing University Medical School, were selected and divided into two groups using the lottery method, with 50 cases in each group. Both groups were given conventional interventions, with the control group adding protective sleep care and the observation group adding protective sleep care combined with hydrotherapy intervention for a week. The time to resolution of jaundice, bilirubin levels (total bilirubin, direct bilirubin), sleep quality, and adverse events were compared between the two groups. Results The jaundice regression time in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P＜0.05). At a week of intervention, serum total bilirubin and direct bilirubin in both groups were lower than before the intervention, while those in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P＜0.05). At a week of intervention, the number of nocturnal awakenings in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, while the duration of nocturnal sleep, total sleep time were longer than those in the control group, and time before going to sleep was shorter than that in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P＜0.05). The difference in the incidence of adverse events between the two groups was not statistically significant (P＞0.05). Conclusion Protective sleep care combined with hydrotherapy intervention shortens the time to resolution of jaundice, reduces serum bilirubin levels, and improves sleep quality in children with NG.
