Abstract Objective To observe the sleep and emotional state of patients with conjunctival laxa and analyze its correlation with and ocular surface symptoms. Methods A total of 46 patients with conjunctival laxa admitted to the Department of Ophthalmology, Putuo Hospital, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (hereinafter referred to as “our hospital”) from October 2020 to May 2021 were collected as the conjunctival laxa group, and 27 healthy people who underwent physical examination during the same period in our hospital were selected as the normal control group. Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) was used to evaluate the sleep status of the two groups. Patient health questionnaire (PHQ-9) and general anxiety disorder scale (GAD-7) were used to evaluate the depression and anxiety status of the two groups. At the same time, the ocular surface disease index (OSDI), tear film rupture time (BUT), Schirmer Ⅰtest (SⅠT), and corneal fluorescein staining (FL) were examined in the two groups to further analyze the correlation between sleep and emotional disorders and ocular surface status in patients with conjunctival laxa. Results The PSQI and the scores of PHQ-9, GAD-7, corneal FL in the conjunctival laxa group were higher than those in the normal control group, and SⅠT and BUT were lower than those in the normal control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The results of correlation analysis showed that PSQI and the scores of PHQ-9 and GAD-7 were positively correlated with OSDI (rs > 0, P < 0.05), and negatively correlated with BUT and SⅠT (rs < 0, P < 0.05). Conclusion Patients with conjunctival laxa have poor sleep quality, depression, and ocular surface lacrimal abnormalities. Therefore, comprehensive management of sleep and emotion should be paid attention to while local treatment, and specialized treatment should be sought for patients with severe depression and anxiety.
