Effect of touch care combined with white noise intervention on neonatal sleep and nervous system development |

Abstract Objective To explore the effect of touch care combined with white noise intervention on neonatal sleep and nervous system development. Methods A total of 92 newborns in Department of Pediatric, Xijing Hospital, the First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Military Medical University of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army from July 2019 to December 2021 were selected. The patients were divided into experimental group and control group, with 46 newborns in each group. The control group received white noise intervention, and the experimental group received touch care on the basis of control group. The sleep quality, growth and development, and neurobehavior of two groups were compared. Results After the intervention, the crying times of two groups were less than those before intervention, and those in experimental group was less than those in control group (P < 0.05); the maximum duration of crying in two groups were shorter than that before intervention, and that in experimental group was shorter than that in control group (P < 0.05). The body length, body weight, and head circumference of two groups were greater than those before intervention, and those in experimental group were greater than those in control group (P < 0.05). The scores of active muscle tension, behavioral ability, passive muscle tension, original reflex, and general response in two groups were higher than those before intervention, and those in experimental group were higher than those in control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Touch care combined with white noise intervention can improve the growth and development of newborns, and improve sleep quality and neural behavior of newborns.
