Methods A total of 88 maintenance hemodialysis patients admitted to the Blood Purification Center of Fuyang Second People’s Hospital from February 2019 to March 2021 were divided into two groups by random number table method. The routine group (44 cases) were given routine health education, while the intervention group was given IKAP-based health education. After eight weeks of intervention, the patients’ self-care ability, skin itching degree, and quality of life were observed. Results After the intervention, the scores of exercise of self-care agency scale in the two groups were higher than those before the intervention, and those in the intervention group were higher than those in the routine group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). After the intervention, the pruritus degree scores in both groups were lower than those before the intervention, while those in the intervention group were lower than those in the routine group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). After the intervention, the scores of generic quality lifeInventory-74 scale in the two groups were higher than those before the intervention, while those in the intervention group were higher than those in the routine group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05).
