Effect of cluster nursing on prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia in patients with mechanical ventilation in emergency intensive care unit |

Abstract Objective To observe the effect of cluster nursing on prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in patients with mechanical ventilation in emergency intensive care unit (EICU). Methods A total of 96 patients who received mechanical ventilation in EICU of Fuyang People’s Hospital of Anhui Province from February 2020 to October 2021 were selected as the research objects. According to the random number table method, the patients were divided into control group and study group, with 48 cases in each group. The control group received routine nursing, while the study group received cluster nursing on the basis of the control group. The incidence of VAP after intervention, and pulmonary infection index score, blood gas analysis indexes before and after intervention, and treatment differences between the two groups were observed. Results After intervention, the incidence of VAP in the study group was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05); the pulmonary infection index score values of the two groups were lower than those before intervention, and the study group was lower than the control group (P < 0.05); the arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2) in the two groups was higher than that before intervention, and the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2) was lower than that before intervention, the PaO2 in the study group was higher than that in the control group, and the PaCO2 score was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). The mechanical ventilation time, EICU stay time, and total hospital stay time in the study group were shorter than those in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Cluster nursing measures for patients with mechanical ventilation in EICU can reduce the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia, improve blood gas indexes, help patients to be weaned as early as possible and shorten the length of hospital stay.
