Abstract Gremlin 1 is a member of the transforming growth factor-β superfamily. Early studies have found that it participates in the formation, development, and differentiation of embryos and inhibits the formation of bone and cartilage. In glucose metabolism, Gremlin 1 can antagonize insulin action; in lipid metabolism, Gremlin 1 can regulate the formation and differentiation of human adipocytes and inhibit browning of white adipocytes. This article reviews the research progress of Gremlin 1 in glucolipid metabolism and related diseases in recent years, in order to provide theoretical basis for the treatment of glucolipid metabolism related diseases.
