Abstract  Objective To explore the effect of psychological intervention combined with graphic communication and nursing on the negative emotions and health awareness of family members in children with severe pneumonia, to provide a theoretical reference for clinical practice. Methods A total of 108 children with severe pneumonia and their families who were admitted to the Department of Pediatrics the First Affiliated Hospital of the Military Medical University of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Air Force from January 2020 to December 2021 were selected as the research objects. They were divided into the control group and the observation group by random number table method, with 54 cases in each group. The control group was given routine psychological intervention, while the observation group was given graphic communication and nursing on the basis of the control group. The negative emotions, medical compliance behavior of children, and health awareness of family members of the two groups were compared. Results After one week of nursing, the proportions of externalizing behavior, internalizing behavior, disorder, and ability in the two groups were lower than those before nursing, while those of the observation group were lower than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The proportion of children following doctor’s instruction in taking medicine, diet, work and rest, and activities in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The health awareness of family members in the observation group was better than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion The application of psychological intervention combined with graphic communication and nursing can relieve the negative emotions of children with severe pneumonia, improve the compliance of children with medical treatment, and enhance the health awareness of family members. It is worthy of widespread clinical promotion and application.
