Clinical effect of trigeminal ganglion low temperature plasma ablation in the treatment of the third branches lesion of idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia |

Abstract Objective To discuss the clinical effect and complication of trigeminal ganglion low temperature plasma ablation in the treatment of the third branches (V3) lesion of idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia. Methods Sixty patients with V3 of idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia treated in Department of Pain Management, Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University from January 2017 to March 2018 were enrolled, and they were divided into Group C and Group R by random number table method, with 30 cases in each group. The Group C was given trigeminal ganglion low temperature plasma ablation, the Group R was given radiofrequency thermocoagulation. The VAS, facial numbness score, masticatory muscle strength score before surgery (T0) and immediately (T1), 1 week (T2), 1 month (T3), 3 months (T4) after surgery and patients′ satisfaction were recorded and analyzed. Results The pain of patients in the two groups was significantly relieved, and there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups before and after the surgery (P > 0.05). The scores of facial numbness and masticatory muscle strength at each time point after surgery in Group C were significantly lower than those in Group R, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.01). The satisfaction of patients in Group C was significantly higher than that in Group R, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.01). Conclusion CT guided trigeminal ganglion low temperature plasma ablation is a safe and effective treatment for idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia with only V3, it is worthy of further clinical exploration and extension.
