Abstract Objective To systematically evaluate the association between IL-6-572C/G gene polymorphism and susceptibility to hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in East Asian population. Methods PubMed, Web of Science, CNKI, Wanfang Data, and VIP were searched for case-control studies on the relationship between IL-6-572C/G (rs1800796C>G) gene polymorphism and HBV infection in East Asian population. The retrieval time was from the inception to October 2021, and Stata S12.0 software was used for meta-analysis. Results Finally, ten literatures were included, including 3 532 hepatitis B virus infected patients and 4 020 controls. The results of meta-analysis showed that carrying G allele and GG+GC, GG, GC genotypes were protective factors for HBV infection in East Asian population (G vs C[OR = 0.80, 95%CI: 0.74-0.87, P < 0.001];GG+GC vs CC[OR = 0.77, 95%CI: 0.70-0.85, P < 0.001];GG vs CG+CC[OR = 0.72, 95%CI: 0.59-0.87, P = 0.001];GC vs CC[OR = 0.79, 95%CI: 0.72-0.87, P < 0.001];GG vs CC[OR = 0.66, 95%CI: 0.54-0.80, P < 0.001]). Conclusion The altered IL-6-572 gene polymorphism (C>G) may reduce the risk of HBV infection in East Asian population.
