Abstract Objective To investigate the effect of humidified high flow nasal cannula (HHFNC) on patients with tracheal incision and non-mechanical ventilation. Methods Sixty patients with cranial incision and non-mechanical ventilation who were admitted to Minjiang Central Hospital of Chongqing from March 2016 to March 2018 were selected. Grouped according to treatment measures, control group and the observation group, with 30 cases in each group. Conventional humidified oxygen therapy and HHFNC were performed in the control group and the observation group, respectively. The incidence of hospital acquired pneumonia was observed at 3, 7, 10, 14 d after airway opening in both groups. The average number of sputum aspiration, the formation rate of sputum callus, the viscosity of sputum, and the airway wetting result after offline were observed. Results The incidence of hospital-acquired pneumonia, number of sucking, rate of sputum formation and the viscosity of sputum in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, the airway wetting result of the patients in the group was better than that of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion HHFNC for patients with craniocerebral injury with tracheotomy and non-mechanical ventilation can reduce the incidence of hospital-acquired pneumonia, the average number of sputum aspiration, and the formation rate of sputum callus, improve the viscosity of sputum, and improve the airway wetting result. It is worthy of clinical application.
