Clinical application of ultrasound-guided axillary vein puncture for PICC catheter implantation |

Abstract Objective To explore the application of ultrasound-guided axillary vein puncture for PICC catheter implantation. Methods From January 2017 to January 2018, 76 patients that needed central venous catheterization in Wenzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Zhejiang Chinese Medical University were selected and randomly divided into experimental group and control group according to random number table method. The experimental group (33 cases) was treated with ultrasound-guided axillary in axillary vein puncture for PICC catheter implantation. The control group (43 cases) was treated with ultrasound-guided axillary in axillary vein puncture for the central venous catheter (CVC) implantation. The success rate of catheterization, indwelling catheter time and complication rate were recorded and compared between the two groups. Results There was no significant difference in the success rate of catheterization between the two groups (P > 0.05); the indwelling catheter time in the experimental group was longer than that of the control group (P < 0.05); the rate of catheter-related complications in the experimental group had no difference with that in the control group (P > 0.05). Conclusion PICC catheter implantation with ultrasound-guided in axillary vein puncture is safe and practical, expanding the area of PICC catheter.
