Changes of circulating extracellular DNA in patients with venous thromboembolism and its clinical significance |

Abstract Objective To investigate the changes of circulating extracellular deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) in patients with venous thromboembolism and its clinical significance. Methods A total of 107 patients with venous thromboembolism treated in Shijiazhuang People’s Hospital (“our hospital” for short) from May 2019 to May 2021 were selected as the disease group, in the same period, 110 healthy people in the Department of Physical Examination of our hospital were selected as the control group. Peripheral venous blood was collected and the plasma DNA concentration was detected by fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction. The plasma circulating extracellular DNA levels of the control group and disease group and the patients with different severity in disease group were compared. The relationship between circulating extracellular DNA level and the severity of venous thromboembolism was analyzed by Spearman rank correlation. Results The level of circulating extracellular DNA in the disease group was higher than that in the control group (P < 0.05). There were significant differences in circulating extracellular DNA levels with different degrees of embolism (P < 0.05), the levels of circulating extracellular DNA in the moderate group and the severe group were higher than those in the mild group (P < 0.05), and the level of circulating extracellular DNA in the severe group was higher than that in the moderate group (P < 0.05). The level of circulating extracellular DNA was positively correlated with the severity of venous thromboembolism (r = 0.866, P < 0.05). Conclusion The level of circulating extracellular DNA in patients with venous thromboembolism is higher than that in healthy people, which is positively correlated with the severity of venous thromboembolism. The more severe the venous thromboembolism, the higher the circulating extracellular DNA level, which can provide a reference basis for the evaluation of the severity of venous thromboembolism.
