Abstract This paper probes into the problems and difficulties in translating the medical classics of Chinese ethnic minorities and further discusses the solutions through the study of the first English version of Yinshan Zhengyao. By analyzing the translation of its title, medical theory, traditional Chinese medicine terms, ingredients, diet names, health cultivation concepts and taboos, it puts forwards that the translators should overcome the difficulties in language and culture, be faithful to the original work, follow the principles of nationality and integrating various appropriate transtation strategies and methods for better translation on the basis of maintaining the characteristics of ethnic medicine culture so as to promote the international communication of the traditional Chinese medicine culture.
