Abstract Senescence of human skin is a natural phenomenon and an important external manifestation of aging. Skin senescence may be related to DNA damage, up-regulation of cell cycle arresting protein, and senescence related secretion phenotype. Skin senescence can be divided into natural senescence and photosenescence, and its performance is thin epidermis, decline in elasticity, increase in wrinkles, and decline in skin barrier function. The changes of melanocytes during skin senescence have attracted more and more attention. Senescence is an important factor in the progress of pigmentation and hypopigmentation. Skin senescence is related to hypopigmentation, such as chloasmaidiopathic guttate hypomelanosis, vitiligo, skin aging can also cause pigmentation, such as sunspots and chloasma. The intervention of skin senescent cells is expected to become a new idea and new means for the clinical treatment of pigmented dermatosis. This review will review the latest progress in the mechanism of senescence related pigmented skin diseases.
