Abstract Objective To explore the influence of “Internet +” volunteer service model on postoperative mood and quality of life of breast cancer patients. Methods A total of 80 inpatients undergoing radical breast cancer surgery in Beijing Friendship Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University (hereinafter referred to as “our hospital”) from June to December 2019 were selected as the control group, accepted face-to-face volunteer programs; a total of 80 inpatients undergoing radical breast cancer surgery in our hospital from January to October 2020 were selected as the experimental group, accepted the “Internet +” volunteer service program. Self-rated anxiety scale (SAS), self-rated depression scale (SDS) and Chinese version of cancer patients’ quality of life core questionnaire (QLQ-C30) were used to compare the levels of anxiety and depression between the two groups before and four months after operation, and the quality of life of patients were evaluated. Results Four months after operation SAS and SDS in the two groups were lower than those before the operation, and SDS in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05); four months after operation, there was no significant difference except for the cognitive function score of the control group compared with that preoperative (P > 0.05). The physical function score of the two groups was lower than that preoperative, while the emotional function, cognitive function, social function, role function and overall quality of life score were higher than that preoperative, the scores of physical function, cognitive function, role function, and overall quality of life in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion “Internet +” volunteer service is better than the face-to-face volunteer service at this stage, which has a significant effect on the improvement of depression and quality of life of patients, and it can benefit more breast cancer patients.
