Ultrasonography observation and evaluation of sciatic neuropathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus |

Abstract Objective To investigate ultrasonography characteristics of type 2 diabetes mellitus with sciatic neuropathy. Methods From February 2017 to February 2018, in the First People's Hospital of Neijiang City, 70 cases of diabetic patients with sciatic neuropathy (group A), 70 cases of diabetic patients without sciatic neuropathy (group B) were selected, and 70 healthy persons were selected as control (group C) at the same time. The characteristics of sciatic nerve in each group were observed by high frequency ultrasound. Results The proportion of nerve capsule thickening and rough in group A was significantly higher than those in group B and group C (P < 0.05); the proportion of thickening and rough of the perineal membrane, the reduction of the echo of the inner were compared among three groups, and the differences were not statistically significant (P > 0.05). The anteroposterior diameter (D1), transverse diameter (D2) and cross sectional area (CSA) of sciatic nerve in the group A were significantly higher than those in the group B and group C (P < 0.05); the D1, D2 and CSA of sciatic nerve in group B and group C were compared, the differences were not statistically significant (P > 0.05). In group A, the D1, D2 and CSA of male patients were significantly higher than those of female patients (P < 0.05). Conclusion High frequency ultrasound can clearly display the parameters of sciatic nerve, and it can provide objective evidence for the diagnosis and treatment of type 2 diabetic sciatic neuropathy.
