Application effect of 3D printing model assisted CBL and PBL teaching mode in the teaching of spinal deformity |

Abstract Objective To explore the application effect of 3D printing model assisted case based learning (CBL) and problem based learning (PBL) in the teaching of spinal deformity. Methods A total of 60 five-year undergraduate students majoring in clinical medicine from grade 2016 who were practicing in the First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Military Medical University from August 2020 to April 2021 were selected and divided into observation group and control group by random number table method, with 30 students in each group. The observation group used 3D printing model to assisted CBL and PBL teaching mode, while the control group used CBL and PBL teaching mode to teach. At the end of the semester, the learning interest, comprehension ability, content mastery, and satisfaction of the two groups were scored and compared. At the same time, the assessment scores of the two groups were recorded and compared. Results The learning interest, comprehension ability, content mastery, and satisfaction scores of the observation group were higher than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The scores of theoretical knowledge and clinical skills of the observation group were higher than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion The 3D printing model assisted CBL and PBL teaching mode can improve students’ learning interest, enable students to better understand and master the anatomical characteristics, deformity progression mechanism, and surgical correction scheme of spinal deformity, which is worthy of popularization and application.
