Application of “mind mapping combined with inventory” teaching method in clinical practice teaching of fascial space infection of maxillofacial region |

Abstract Objective To evaluate the application effect of “mind mapping combined with inventory” teaching method in clinical practice teaching of fascial space infection of maxillofacial region. Methods From July 2020 to October 2021, 40 undergraduate students majoring in stomatology practiced in the Ward of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Stomatology, the Fourth Military Medical University were selected. They were assigned to experimental group and control group by random number table method, 20 students in each group. The experimental group adopted the “mind mapping combined with inventory” teaching method for clinical practice teaching, while the control group adopted the “traditional guidance” mode for clinical practice teaching. The internship effect of two groups were compared by the questionnaire and exam. Results In this study, 40 questionnaires were actually sent out, and a total of 40 questionnaires were recovered with effective recovery of 100%. The self-evaluation scores of the experimental group in “the clinical practice has obviously consolidated my relevant theoretical knowledge”, “the clinical practice has significantly improved my doctor-patient communication ability”, “after the clinical practice, I have completely mastered the diagnosis and treatment process of fascial space infection of maxillofacial region” were higher than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). In the experimental group, the self-evaluation score of “I think the teaching method of ‘mind mapping combined with inventory’ is very important in clinical practice of fascial space infection of maxillofacial region” was (4.6±0.6) points. The test results of the experimental group were higher than the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion The teaching method of “mind mapping combined with inventory” can obviously improve the clinical teaching effect of maxillofacial space infection, which is worthy of further promotion in teaching.
