Research progress of acupuncture in the treatment of migraine based on fMRI |

Abstract Migraine is a common idiopathic nervous system disease, which is highly prevalent and difficult to heal. Acupuncture is effective, safe, and economical for migraine, but its central mechanism is not clear. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) can objectively and indirectly show the changes of brain activation areas and functional connections between different brain areas during acupuncture. Reviewing the research on acupuncture treatment of migraine based on fMRI in recent years, it is found that acupuncture treatment of migraine causes specific changes in brain functional structure, brain blood flow, and brain functional network, which may be the central mechanism of acupuncture treatment of migraine. This paper summarizes the application of real task fMRI, resting fMRI, and functional connection in acupuncture diagnosis and treatment of migraine, and discusses the research direction and prospect of the combination of fMRI and acupuncture in the treatment of migraine.
