Abstract Banxia Houpu Decoction is the original formula in the treatment of “plum-stone qi”. The author has drawn a conclusion that Banxia Houpu Decoction’s compatibility characteristics that treating with both elimination and reinforcement, ascending and descending regulation, and regulating the mood with spleen and stomach’s physiological and pathological characteristics by analyzing its theory and clinical practice. In addition, antidepressant effect of this prescription also accords with the diagnosis and treatment ideas and means of various emotion-related gastrointestinal diseases. The author has received exact effect in treating gastrointestinal diseases by Banxia Houpu Decoction, and summarized clinical experience through typical cases.
