Abstract Ischemic stroke is one of the disease that seriously harm human’s health, and cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury is its core pathological aspect. In recent years, many studies have found that calcium overload plays an important role in its pathological process. Through literature review, it was found that N-methyl-D-aspartic acid receptor, transient receptor potential melastatin 2, acid sensitive ion channels, ATP deficiency on affecting Na+/Ca2+ exchanger, participation of Golgi apparatus, and calmodulin mediate the occurrence of calcium overload, while calcium overload leads to the death of neurons through mitochondrial damage, oxidative stress, and activation of endoplasmic reticulum stress.
